菱田俊子
Toshiko Hishida
Artist
Born in Tokyo in 1961.
Studied printmaking at Joshibi University of Art and Design (graduated in 1984) and Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School(completed in 1986).
In 1989, became a high school teacher and pursued both art education and personal artistic practice.
In 2016, took early retirement from teaching and has since participated in solo exhibitions and numerous international exchange exhibitions.
Forty years ago, I visited a print exhibition in Tokyo.
At that time, I realized that printmaking had a unique charm that other forms of painting did not possess.
While all printmaking techniques are fascinating, I felt that the clarity of the silkscreen printing method resonated perfectly with my own sensibilities.
Using the silkscreen technique, I have continued to create works inspired by everyday objects such as glass cups, light and shadow, and plants.
Even when using the same subjects and techniques, my works have continuously evolved as I have grown older and changed over time.
My works are also a record of my spiritual journey, expressed through the subjects I have depicted.
